Synchronized Spectacle: ‘Match of Contradictions’ redefines event dynamics at Motorwerk Berlin
In this project, the media production, agency, and choreographer collaborated to design and synchronize the concept of the event “Match of Contradictions.” The chosen location was the Motorwerk in Berlin, a former industrial hall with a dynamic 90-meter length, allowing for fluid movement. A 400-seat grandstand was positioned at the southern end of the hall, preserving the space’s depth. This setup ensured room for movement and the resonance of engine sounds.
The hall’s depth also allowed for multi-layered media staging. Two main screens and 12 additional mobile screens of varying sizes were strategically placed. The front main screen was seamlessly movable, while performers manually adjusted the mobile screens according to the choreography. Four of the mobile screens utilized infra-red tracking technology, enabling content to follow the screen regardless of performer movement.
The central theme, “Match of Contradictions – Matching Contradictions,” emphasized the Panamera’s dual nature as a luxurious sedan and a high-performance sports car. This concept was illustrated by twins embodying both extremes and showcased through the contrast of an unconventional yet harmonious dance duo – a power acrobat and a ballerina. The tension arising from these opposing elements defined the entire performance.
Exclusive music was composed by Marco Lehmann for the world premiere, drawing inspiration from the vowels in the word “Panamera.” Alongside the media, dancers, and lighting, it played a crucial role in evoking emotions during the event.
